Island of the Blue Dolphins by Scott O’Dell
I wrote this review immediately after I finished reading the book while I was at the pool, so the structure and tone of this one may be a lil different lol
Girl…. I’ve been in the pool reading this and I’ve had Beyoncé radio on Spotify in the background. Rontu died as II Most Wanted started playing… Honey, I about lost my mind. I knew this fucking dog was going to die, like you could just tell, but my dog is also getting older and I just couldn’t handle it. Actual crybaby antics occurring as I read it.
This is all on top of the fact that this same damn dog that she has become so attached to is the same one that previously killed her little brother after all her other family had either died or moved on, and then at the very end to find out her sister ALSO died right as she reached the shores of the new place they were supposed to be living at, AND then also to find out that this is (semi) based on a true story!!! Like oh my god how much can a girl go through!?
There was a review of this book on the cover that said it would stay with you long after you put it down, and I fully understand why. It’s a story of finding constant strength throughout tragedy after tragedy, and appreciating life and the earth around you at the same time.
Jesus Christ it was so good. I think this one is a 5/5 too.
